CSU leads AI development for use in mobile, rural health clinic
The Department of Computer Science is part of a $25 million multi-institution research project that seeks to bridge gaps in rural health care by equipping mobile clinics with smart technology. The project is funded by the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), which supports the development of transformative biomedical and health breakthroughs.

Craig Partridge appointed to Max Planck Institute advisory board
The president of the world-renown Max Planck Society has appointed Professor Craig Partridge to a six-year term on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Max Planck Institute for Informatics. The board is comprised of internationally recognized experts who evaluate the institute’s research on computer science algorithms and their applications in a broad sense.

Computer science faculty member named one of ‘AI’s 10 to Watch’ by IEEE Intelligent Systems
Assistant Professor Sarath Sreedharan has been recognized by the world’s largest technical professional organization for his foundational framework of human-aware artificial intelligence systems and its application to navigate problems like explainability and value alignment. Sarath is the director of the Human-Aware Planning Interaction Lab and has hosted projects ranging from AI system development for day-to-day tasks to tutoring systems designed to help aid bee conservation efforts.

Shrideep Pallickara receives N. Preston Davis Award for Instructional Innovation and Engagement
The N. Preston Davis Award for Instructional Innovation and Engagement is presented annually by The Institute for Learning and Teaching. This year, Shrideep has been recognized for creating RamDesk – a novel tool suite for managing Canvas courses. RamDesk increases instructor efficiency and has already reclaimed 8760+ hours in productivity gains – a year’s worth of time savings. RamDesk is now available University-wide.

Sudeep Pasricha honored with Board of Governors Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award
The Board of Governors of the Colorado State University System has recognized Sudeep Pasricha, professor of computer science and electrical and computer engineering, for his dedication to instructional excellence, holistic mentoring and empowering students. Sudeep is dedicated to designing accessible course content and fostering collaboration that encourages students to embrace different perspectives and support each other.

The Tomoa Skip: CSU researchers analyze the new move that revolutionized speed climbing
Computer science undergraduate Caleb Chou is a rock climber. He recently published a research paper with Statistics Assistant Professor Andee Kaplan, who is also an avid rock climber. Their paper analyzes a controversial rock-climbing shortcut – the Tomoa Skip – a strategy for progressing through climbing holds on a speed climbing route.

AI expert discusses social AI chatbots on KVDR Denver Fox31 News
Safety concerns are growing as children interact with AI-powered chatbots. Assistant Professor Nikhil Krishnaswamy recently talked with Fox31 News and explained how AI-powered chatbots work, their associated risks, and what parents need to know about the content their children may be exposed to when interacting with these AI systems.

Q&A with computer science and theatre alumnus Robert Longo

CSU students help USDA, NASA and Amazon Web Services at hackathon event
Eighteen computer science students propelled seven award-winning teams at the CSU Hackathon. Students across multiple majors teamed up with NASA, USDA, USFS, and Amazon Web Services for a 24-hour hackathon focused on solving real-world challenges. The event was hosted by the CSU Career Center and the computer science student organization DevNet.

AI researcher shares expertise with Fort Collins community
Assistant Professor Nikhil Krishnaswamy presented at the Ram Talks Series in downtown Fort Collins. Ram Talks are an opportunity for community members and CSU experts to explore topics and share insights. Nikhil discussed “Artificial Collaborative Intelligence: How AI Can Help Humans Be Better Teammates.”
